To Have the Taiwanese Businesswomen on Board of the New Southbound Journey
Since receiving the Hua-Guan Award in 2010, I have been fortunate to become a part of the GFCBW family. The GFCBW not only brings together outstanding Chinese businesswomen from all over the world, but most importantly has also been a unique channel to showcase Taiwan to the rest of the world.
As we all know, the economy in China has been maturing gradually and Taiwanese business people are no longer eagerly trying to establish factories there. Not only that, with the recent trade war between the U.S. and China, Chinese imports into the U.S. are now experiencing much higher duty rates. As a result, more and more Taiwanese business people are now considering moving the manufacturing centers to Southeast Asia. I believe that the Southeast Asia economy is something to watch and pay attention to. In the past year, as the Vice Global President, I have helped support Global President Shu-Ying Li and established more chapters in countries such as Malaysia and Cambodia. Currently, the Taiwanese government has been advocating the New Southbound Policy so that the Taiwanese economy will no longer depend greatly on China. With this new transition, the GFCBW is definitely riding the wave and ahead of many others with its vision of expanding to more places in Southeast Asia.
In the upcoming year, I will continue to work hard and work diligently, in order to assist Global President Alice Liu in her responsibilities. Global President Alice Liu, who grew up playing volleyball for her school varsity team, is 175cm and 180cm when she wears high heels. She can often be spotted easily in a crowd. However, she is never arrogant or over-confident; rather, she is always humble and eager to learn in every way possible. As a result, she has had great accomplishments at Advantech Co. during her 15 years there, and the company she founded – Avalue – has also been extremely successful.
Global President Alice Liu’s story reminds me very much of my own. When I started a business in scrap metal, it was an industry that was dominated by men. Therefore, there was very little resources, and I had to take the initiative and hold onto every opportunity to learn, to ask questions, and to improve myself. In the future, I hope to discover and support more GFCBW members with Global President Alice Liu, and to help more Taiwanese businesswomen expand from Taiwan and Japan to Southeast Asia and the rest of the world.
